Xổ số miền bắc xổ số miền namThese four subjects are highly valued at The Ridgeway School and we have lots of exciting opportunities for students within these four areas.
We have been hugely successful in competitions such as the Go4Set Challenge and the Faraday event, with students progressing to the final rounds at Exeter university and Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, respectively.
There is a weekly STEM club open to all KS3 students, where students can extend their knowledge of all areas of STEM in exciting challenges and projects. We have made sweet dispensers, looked at the science reactions when cooking food, robotics, electronic textiles, maths challenges and lots more.
In addition to our popular STEM club, Year 12 students have taken part in a residential trip and an ongoing project working with aeronautical engineers to design and create a prototype project that the presented to a panel of judges.
Xổ số miền bắc xổ số miền namThroughout the year we hold STEM events, including guest speakers – our latest speakers were the STEMettes who held an assembly to Year 9 girls about careers in STEM. We also hold challenge days for groups of students to work with STEM companies and take part in STEM challenges.

Year 10 Airbus Visit
Xổ số miền bắc xổ số miền namIn March 2018 the BTEC Engineering group spent some time at the Airbus site in Bristol where they learnt about how virtual reality is helping engineers and the testing that is involved when making landing gears for planes.
Xổ số miền bắc xổ số miền nam Students were also given lots of information regarding how STEM subjects could create career paths and apprenticeship, internship and graduate opportunities at Airbus. The students asked some really interesting questions, some that even made the graduates showing us around think!
Xổ số miền bắc xổ số miền namThe afternoon was spent at the Aerospace museum where students saw Concorde and got to experience what the inside of the plane was like. They also got to learn about all of the different sectors of aerospace engineering and the products that are produced within each sector, and got to see real life examples of how this industry has changed in such a short space of time.
Xổ số miền bắc xổ số miền namThe feedback from students was really positive and the information from the trip should help massively in their coursework as research.
Miss L Hodge
On the 15th May 2018, Caroline from Generation STEM visited 15 Year 10 students to talk to them about potential careers in the STEM industry and to give them advice and tips on job interviews, writing application forms and CVs and skills that could be useful in the workplace. After the morning workshop, each student took part in a 10-15 minute formal interview to discuss their career plans, their hobbies and what a work experience placement would mean to them.
In the following few days, 5 of the 15 were chosen to take part in a work experience program with a local company that matches their future career plans and hobbies. Those students will be working with various departments and will also be asked to complete a mini project during their time at the company.
Caroline commented, “You should be extremely proud of each and every one of the students involved during the day. They really listened and took on board the tips that I gave them in the morning and it was lovely to see them using these techniques in their own interviews. It will be incredibly difficult to pick 5 students as they were all polite, engaged and came across really well at interview.” We will keep you updated on how the lucky 5 students get on! Formula 24 Project
Xổ số miền bắc xổ số miền namFor a number of Key Stage 3 students, the first couple of weekends after the summer holidays 2018 were very eventful! The Ridgeway’s Formula 24 team took part in their first electric go kart race days.
On the 9th September the students visited Dunsfold Park and completed a 90 minute endurance race competing against 51 other schools. We came 38th overall but achieved first place out of the 8 new teams that took part. The students were rightly proud of their achievement and were already looking at improvements to make to the car for the following weekend.
On the 16th September, the students visited Castle Combe for the last race of the season. The students took part in two 90 minute endurance races – finishing 42nd out of 53 in the morning race and clawing it back in the afternoon race to finish 39th!
The students were up against seasoned racers, so were incredibly proud of what they achieved. All of the students involved demonstrated fantastic team work and their attitude throughout the whole project has been inspiring! The season has now finished for the year, but we will be recruiting new team members after the October holidays to join some of the original team members to make further improvements on the car ready for the new season in May.
